If you are remodeling your bathroom, then your bathroom flooring should be as unique as the space you are creating. After all, everyone has their own ideas about how they would like the finished space to look. Before you head to the store and buy the first tile that suits your fancy, consider these bathroom flooring ideas.
Leather Belts Flooring
It is easy to make leather belt flooring for your bathroom. Start by collecting leather belts that are about the same thickness. Then, use a utility knife to cut off the buckles and any other hardware. Glue the belts to the floor. Cover the belts with a layer or two of polyurethane to protect the belts and give them a shine. As an alternative, you can cut pieces from the belts that are the same length. Then, attach them to a mesh. Glue the mesh down to the floor. Finish with coats of polyurethane. You can find old belts in many people’s closet, and this may be a great way to pay tribute to your elders. Otherwise, head to thrift stores.
Penny Flooring
You can make your own penny tiles for your bathroom floor. The first step is to gather enough pennies to cover your floor. Attach the pennies using glue to plastic mesh cut into squares that will cover your bathroom floor. Then, lay the mesh down on your floor like you would put down regular tile. Use pineapple juice or copper cleaner to keep your bathroom floor clean after installing.
Cordwood Flooring
If you have easy access to cordwood, then you can make your own gorgeous cordwood flooring. Start by cutting the cordwood into a uniform thickness. Then, lay them down on the floor starting at the outside of the bathroom and working toward the middle while making an interesting pattern that you like. Use glue to hold the discs in place. After the glue has dried, apply a coat of polyurethane finish. Let it dry, and then fill the spaces between the discs with a mixture of 80 percent floor grout and 20 percent sawdust. Finish your bathroom floor by applying two or three more coats of polyurethane. This beautiful flooring may be perfect in a cabin or in a hunting lodge.
Paper Bag Flooring
Not only is paper bag flooring cheap to do, the finished look will amaze everyone who uses your bathroom. You can simply lay the paper bags cut open onto the floor and decoupage them in place. Alternatively, you can cut fancy pictures using different colors of paper bags to create the different parts. Regardless of which you choose, finish the flooring with several coats of polyurethane. This is a great way to recycle bags so that they do not end up in the landfill.
Creating a unique bathroom floor need not be expensive. You can use old leather belts, pennies, cordwood or paper bags. Whichever option you choose, you will have a floor that is as unique as you are and that you love to show off to your friends.
