5 Kitchen Remodels for $100 or Less

So you’re sick of looking at your kitchen, but you don’t have the chunk of cash required for a total kitchen remodel. Lucky for you, there are tons of ways that you can update your space on a seriously tight budget. Some of them take a little work, but won’t a pretty kitchen be worth it? So, without further ado, here are five fabulous ways to update your kitchen for less than $100 each.

  • Switch it out

New drawer pulls and cabinet knobs are a quick and easy change to make, and can really change the feel of your cabinets. You can get cabinet knobs and drawer pulls for 3 or 4 bucks at a lot of hardware stores. Once you get home, it’s usually as easy as unscrewing the old ones and twisting the new ones into the holes.

  • Tile it

A cool kitchen backsplash can make all the difference, and there are a lot of peel and stick kits that make kitchen backsplashes ultra-simple. You can easily find peel and stick kits as low as $11 for a square foot. If you want to go a more original route, you can make a DIY backsplash out of just about anything you can think of, from wine corks to coins to pebbles from your yard. When you’re planning your budget, keep in mind that you’ll also need supplies like grout and a putty knife.

  • Paint it

Let’s be honest: there are a lot of old, ugly cabinets out there, and they can be expensive to replace. An easy (and inexpensive) way to fix it is just to take off the cabinet doors and slap on a coat of paint! You can consider wall paper too, if you’re feeling really bold. Take note that this style looks best with dishes that match and can be stacked neatly. You also might want to keep a few cabinets with doors so that you have some place to hide those cabinets you never feel like organizing (don’t pretend you don’t have a few of those).

  • Organize it

Never underestimate the visual appeal of an organized space. Maybe the reason you’re sick of your kitchen is that there is always junk everywhere! The best part of this kind of kitchen remodel is that with a little hard work, you can do it completely for free. A few pretty storage containers never hurt, but those can quickly get pricey. Consider buying a few from the store, repurposing containers from other parts of the house, and crafting the rest yourself from old boxes (a little bit of pretty paper to cover the outside goes a long way).

  • Green it up

Make use of that window ledge above your sink (or get a hanging planter if you don’t have a good window ledge). Colorful flowers can brighten up your kitchen, or you can go a slightly more utilitarian route and plant herbs. (How convenient would it be to have fresh herbs within arm’s reach, anytime you need them?) You may not think adding a planter or two to your windowsill could really count as a kitchen remodel, but you’ll be surprised by how much cheerier and cozier a little green friend can make your kitchen feel.

A hundred bucks can go a long way when it comes to updating your kitchen. And for a room you probably spend a lot of time in, isn’t it worth it?
